Jim Callon Resigns as Superintendent of Bankruptcy

Today, Jim Callon announced his resignation as Superintendent of Bankruptcy.

Since he became Superintendent in 2008, CAIRP has worked closely with Jim on a number of key projects for the insolvency system, including the following highlights:

·        Signing the 2009 MOU with CAIRP repatriating the qualification program (CQP);

·        Announcing the new Licensing Framework earlier this summer and putting in place a consultative process with CAIRP to implement its various components in the coming years;

·        Supporting CAIRP’s endeavours to develop consumer standards as well as the commercial standard on liquidators and auctioneers;

·        Initiating a review of the Counseling Directive

Jim has always been a man of principle and will be known as someone who actively served as a member of the International Association of Insolvency Regulators and expanded the Superintendent’s regulatory oversight from trustees to include creditors and debtors. In this respect, he broke new ground in announcing plans in January, 2011 to open three Special Fraud Units of the RCMP to prosecute bankruptcy offences.

CAIRP will be writing to Jim shortly to express its appreciation of his outstanding work as Superintendent and to wish him the best in his future endeavours.
